March 2019
I have been working with a group of four homeless people for about three months on the north side of town. One of the homeless men got seriously ill – we will call him “Guitar Man.” I hadn’t seen Guitar Man for a few days so I asked his friend “J”, “Where’s Guitar Man?” J told me with concern how Guitar Man has serious physical complications; has no means to a doctor and denies going to the emergency room because he’s “…going to die anyway.” The Holy Spirit spoke to me right then and told me to hold J’s arm, pray against the illness, and tell J to go touch Guitar Man’s chest that night (both are unbelievers). This all sounds fantastic, but I offered, J accepted and off he went.
THE NEXT DAY, Guitar Man was out walking the street as if nothing was wrong with him. I found J and asked, “Did you do what we talked about [touch Guitar Man on the chest and deliver the prayer of healing]?” He said “Yeah.” So, I pointed out that the previously “dying man” was up and out walking around as if nothing was ever wrong with him. J looked at Guitar Man, looked back at me and replied with a confused look, “Interesting.”
