October 2019

I have developed a relationship with a homeless couple, “Uncle” and “Badu.”  Well, more Uncle than Badu. They have children who sleep in a home with family nearby, but this couple “camps” at a Tent City, separate from their children in a “very large tent.”  Uncle is a drinker. According to him there are no drugs involved.  His wife doesn’t do drugs or drink and both of them are totally rational and mentally stable.  These people are homeless, but they are not insane!  One day Uncle told me they were squatting because “raccoons” had torn-up their tent, then he asked me if he could tell me something “weird.”  He then told me they were squatting because they were scared to go back to the tent where they were “getting attacked by demons.”  This attacking spirit will begin to make weird frightening noises and attack their tent from above while they are in it, and the tent will physically cave in from above.  He looks out and there’s nothing there.  Other homeless people have stayed with them in their “very large tent” and have witnessed these attacks.  Uncle has also played me two recordings on his cell phone where this being will make noises before it “attacks.”   The sounds are frightening.  They are very scared and – bad news – Badu has begun to communicate with it.  In defense against this spiritual oppressor, they have thrown oil both in and outside the tent, but it doesn’t work.  Uncle has started to use the name of Jesus.  It will leave for a couple days and come back.  The last time we spoke he told me that during the last demon attack, they went outside, hammered a cross – he made from sticks – in the ground, and read from a Bible he received.  He said this demon went crazy and started attacking from the inside of the tent (a first) before it finally left.

Update. It turns out Uncle was more than a heavy drinker. Uncle died of a heroin overdose months ago. I ran into Badu and she gave me the bad news. Badu now has her children and an apartment. Uncle never accepted Jesus and wouldn’t allow me to get close for a multitude of reasons. I am discouraged that he chose to die without Jesus. Imagine spending your life in torment as a homeless, heroin addict, only to spend eternity in hell. I will miss Uncle.
