The Oracle of Truth, or Bocca della Verita is a very obscure historical character. Bocca della Verita loosely translates, “Mouth from the Truth” and is a big round mask, two meters in diameter, made of marble and set in the wall of Santa Maria in Cosmedin Church in Rome, Italy. For context, Rome is known as “Urbs Aeterna,” or the Eternal City which gives it a heavenly equality that believers of the Bible know can’t be true.
Bocca’s obscure origin is not concretely known. What’s odd is, the figure shows up in multiple cultures all over the world, in different time periods, and in the same form. This may not seem profound to the reader, but why would a figure of unimportance show up all over the world, in the same form, before global communication if the figure was insignificant?
The story behind Bocca places the disc originally as a sewer cover. This fact might strike at the relevance of this marble disc to some, but to others Bocca was said to “drink the rain waters” back to the sea. Also, in Satanic ritual fashion, during festivals, Bocca would “drink the blood” of ritually sacrificed bulls. Bocca is connected to water divinities and found at fountains and water ways all over the world. The authenticity of the mask can be found documented in the Mirabilia Urbis Romea and other third century documents, connecting the mask to Emperor Julian who, according to these historic documents, made a deal with Satan through the Bocca della Verita to reestablish Paganism.
These stories are not isolated to Italy or one specific age. The stories of Bocca are all over Europe and the world, even throughout the age after Christ died, until today. I’ve noticed the Bocca on a house in the Old Town District of my own city. I’ve always seen it, knew it was some god, but didn’t know what it was until my experience with Pure Counsel in May of 2023 and this research; to which, Bocca appears to Pure Counsel as an oracle to give a message of what’s to come with her family (judgement).
Other historical origins explain that the god Bocca sat at the top of the holy spring (water way) in front of Mercury Temple in Rome, Italy. Here, Roman merchants would swear their honesty during trades. In the Middle Ages, persons making deals would place their hands in the mouth of Bocca and if one is caught lying, their hand would be gobbled up by the mouth of the mask.
The history of the occult is wrapped in an enigma of mystery as is mythology, but the connections between the two are undeniable. The true understanding of who’s behind the mask of Bocca is unknown, however, Bocca’s stone face is connected to and represents the following: the “Titan god Oceanus,” “a faun,” or an oracle. Oceanus is the primordial Titan god of earths water ways as well as the Milky Way, which is Oceanos and is the celestial river which flows around the earth. Mercury is connected to the Faun god, or “Pan” and Bocca sits at the Temple of Mercury, perhaps to sit as Judge or Oracle. An oracle is a priest or priestess acting as a medium to dead spirits through whom advice or prophecy is sought – necromancy. Pan is the Roman god Faunus, half-man and half-animal (goat), a sexual deviant who hunts the innocent (children) at night with a flute to seduce and rape. Pan is the son of Mercury and the Baphomet. Peter Pan is sold to your children as innocent.
