“Piano Man” is a homeless backslidden brother in Christ who tells me tales of addiction, jail-time, infidelity, the loss of his wife and daughter, and the most recent passing of his mother. When his mother dies it renders him homeless. Four months ago, when we first meet, he is to the point of suicide. I fumble through scripture to support the Biblical positions I am proposing to him and he agrees to all, but where I really want to go to is Jesus for repentance and restoration; to which, we does. A week later “Piano Man” is still distracted, trying not to lose his mother’s items; some pawned and others in a storage facility. He asks me for money. I say “No” because I am disappointed he isn’t moving on as I thought he should. At that moment, in His love and mercy, Jesus tells me “Pay the bills.” What does one do when the Savior of all things gives an order? Of course I pay the bills, Piano Man crys and over the next couple days his position changes…on life and Jesus! Piano Man is now entering a local year-long program to rehabilitate himself back into society. Jesus gives me another “message” for Piano Man, “XXXXXX [Piano man] the Soul Winner.” Jesus tells me He is going to take this year and build a testimony in Piano Man. Jesus is going to take all that negativity and turn Piano Man into a worker in the Kingdom of God. My flesh is wrong and Jesus is right; again, as usual!
