July 2019
“Igloo” is attacked by a dark, shadowy figure with wings. When it appears to him it puts a fear in him he’s never felt before; but first, let me tell you about the second time I meet Igloo in July 2019. I’m studying in my favorite fast-food restaurant which overlooks the busy intersection of a commercial section of town. I’ve spent time with many men and women who’ve worked those corners; some success stories, most devastating.
Igloo walks in the restaurant, speaks to me, and sits down., like he’s known me his whole life. At this point, he’s been pan-handling for 4 hours and only made $3. We discuss the impending thunderstorm and his faulty tent. He’s going to get wet, so Jesus tells me in my spirit, “Buy him a tent,” Jesus is the Boss, so we drive to a “friend’s house,” pick up his cooler (hence the name “Igloo”), drive to Walmart and purchased food, ice, and a tent. Driving toward his camp I check his salvation; to which, he’s saved! He had just received Jesus a month ago, in a church he started going to after our first meeting.
We stop my car just outside his camp and begin discussing his life. We talk about living in the woods and his drinking problem. Igloo tells me about owning his own construction business and home. He tells me everything changes when he meets a woman. He falls head-over-heals in love with this woman; strangely in love. Like he would do anything for her. Out of control, like she has some kind of power over him. As he’s telling me about this woman, Jesus says to me “Witchcraft,” and “Love spell.” I tell him and he screams, “I knew it. She was always talking about witchcraft. She would have weird people over to my home and introduced me to drugs, Troy. It’s like I couldn’t say no. If she needed money, I would give it all to her. I was blind to it all.”
Then the story gets interesting. He tells me about being in the woods where a large, shadowy figure with red wings appears to him. He starts to run, it chases him, he trips over a dead tree and falls on his back. The demon figure stands over him as he is on his back and he passes out. He doesn’t remember leaving the woods, but after this day he is filled with rage and his life begins spinning out of control: drugs and alcohol, he loses his business, loses his home, does jail time and ultimately becomes homelessness.
As Igloo is telling me these things, Jesus tells me to “Pray against that spirit now.” We pray a very powerful prayer of deliverance for him, against the former things. He looks as if he’s going to pass out. I asked, “Are you okay?” and Jesus gives me this message for him: “Today is the beginning of a transformation for you. Today is the day that your life changes.” He cries, we shake hands, and say goodbye as he walks off into the woods.
I’ve thought about Igloo many times since that day, but never ran into him again.
December 2019
Today I’m driving by the “friend’s house” where we picked-up Igloo’s cooler and there’s an older lady outside the front door going in. I’m curious, turn around, go back and park in front of the house. I knock, the lady I notice in the yard answers, and after introductions she tells me Igloo is her son. I think, “Wow. This isn’t a friend’s house.” and tell her “Okay, I need to tell you something.” I tell her some of what Igloo and I talked about when we met, and that I prayed deliverance over him in my car, outside his camp. She tears up and becomes very solemn. She tells me that Igloo is in Baltimore City in a rehab facility and that he made the decision to change his life. Jesus said “Today is the beginning of a transformation for you. Today is the day that your life changes.” It seems that Jesus meant what He was saying, as usual, Amen
