A while ago my wife asked me about the last air conditioner we had to give away to people in need. She had someone in mind, I prayed, and the Holy Spirit told me that it was spoken for; that alerted me to put the unit in the trunk. A week or so later I’m riding around the East Church Street area and I was reminded of the air conditioner in my trunk. It was 90 degrees in the early afternoon, so I started looking for children and open windows – this was the criteria that stood out to me. I approached a home that had ALL its windows open, but no one to be seen. As I drove by I looked into the front screen door and there were two little children looking at me. Jesus said “That’s the one,” so I back up in front of the house. I get out, walk toward the door and the little African American kids ran back into the home. An elderly black lady comes to the door and says hello with a skeptical look on her face. I introduce myself as Troy and tell her Jesus gave me an air conditioner I’m trying to find a home for it. She did not offer her name, she did not smile, but she immediately said “We’ll take it.” I went to my car and brought it back to the front door. I was excited and offered to install it for her, but she stopped me and told me “No. Lay it down on the porch.” She never opened the door, she never smiled, and never said anything out of the way. I told her “The unit is a small one, but it works great and it’ll cool down at least one room for you” to which she replied “Thank you.” As I was leaving she asked me “What’s your name again?” I said “Troy,” so she said “Thank you Troy.” I smiled at her and left, but received no smile back; just her constant gaze. She was the one! I was glad to bless her. Jesus doesn’t always tell me why and I don’t always ask. I love this job!
