February 2020

I walked in and noticed Bonnie & Clyde sitting in the corner.  They looked dirty, smelled bad, and had that “deer in the headlights” look on their faces.  Jesus nudged me to engage.  I did.  I call them Bonnie & Clyde because they project an “Us against the World” persona.  I later learned that Clyde is 24, Bonnie is 21, and they’re homeless (him since 15 years old).  He has experienced abuse as a child, became a drug addict, has been clean for the last couple years, and really loves his girlfriend and baby-to-be.  That’s right, she’s pregnant.  As per his testimony to me, Clyde has a low IQ and has been verbally abused by his family and called a “retard” (he’s not retarded BTW).  His father has severely beaten him, his brother has “mental issues” and tried to kill him, and his mother tried to run over Bonnie because his parents “do not approve” of their relationship.  Their understanding of salvation came up.  He explained his understanding which he got from his grandmother, “If you are good and do the best you can, you will go to heaven.”  I asked if I could respond directly to his grandmother’s point.  He gave permission and I told him “Your grandmother is wrong!”  We worked through the gospel of Jesus Christ.  They agreed they need Jesus’ sacrifice to pass final judgement or they would die in their sins.  They accepted Jesus, I fed them dinner, I drove them to a hotel, and The Truth Project put them in it.
