I’m sitting in a fast-food restaurant, studying, and sitting across from an eighty-four-year-old, Christian lady who later introduces herself as Esther.  My attention is drawn to this elderly woman having difficulty opening a creamer package for her coffee.

I ask the woman, “Do you need help?”  She thinks and responds, “Please.”  I walk to her table, sit down, and put two creamers and an equal in her coffee.  She tells me how the arthritis in her shoulders is bothering her.  I smile and go back to my table, but Jesus is not allowing me to walk away so easily.  I know that I am supposed to pray for her.  I motion to Esther, “Can I pray for you?”  She mouths, “Yes,” so I go back to her table.  I place my hand on her shoulder and ask Jesus to give this elderly woman relief from her pain for the day; then, we begin talking.

During our conversation I learn not only that Esther is eighty-four years old, but that she is one of 12 siblings, has grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She’s also wearing a t-shirt, glorifying her wonderful position as a grandmother.  Esther speaks to me on how great God is to her and how He has blessed her family over the years.  After around twenty minutes, I admit to Esther what I asked Jesus to do for her and ask her how she feels.  She begins to move her arms around, up, and down and replies, “They feel good.  No pain.”

Jesus is awesome.  Amen!
